url-5A bipartisan group of five legislators has introduced a bill to make New Hampshire the third state to legalize and regulate the adult recreational use of marijuana.

House Bill 492 would legalize the possession of up to an ounce of cannabis, and the private cultivation of up to six marijuana plants for adults 21 and older, including three mature plants, according to NORML Communications Director Erik Altieri. HB 492 would also allow for the licensed commercial cultivation and sale of cannabis.

According to a poll taken this month by Public Policy Polling, 53 percent of New Hampshire voters support legalizing marijuana and taxing it similarly to alcohol; only 37 percent were opposed.

Six states — Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont — are now considering legislation to legalize marijuana, according to Altieri. (Looks like the East Coast is gettin’ ready to kick some ass on the legalization tip.)
