If you’ve been paying attention to what has actually been happening most recently, you are aware that the push for the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana is on the rise.

It would seem that people are finally waking up and realizing the good that would come from this, and the strong push is coming from Generation Y, or the “Millennials.”

The open-minded generation that dared to wonder, innovate, and ask thought-provoking questions is the same generation of free-spirited creators and thinkers who brought on the push for change within our society. Read Full Article →

Has the Bic company refused to print Seattle Hempfest-branded lighters with marijuana leaves on them?

It has, according to a status update posted on Seattle Hempfest’s Facebook page Friday afternoon.

“Bic Lighters, after years of printing our lighters, has now refused to print pot leaves on lighters for us,” the update reads. “Is that crazy?

“We’ve been producing Hempfest lighters for some time,” the update reads. “Bic has chickened out.

“How much money do you think Bic lighters [make] off of the cannabis culture?” the update reads. “Equality some day!”

oppression-1-thumb-400x266Editor’s note: Medical marijuana access point Seattle Collective Garden sent this message to its email list on Friday. I’ve been on SCG’s email list ever since I reviewed the shop  for the Seattle Weekly last November (they were quite good, and Ruby was one of the best budtenders I’ve seen).

With heavy hearts and a heap of frustration we regret to inform you that Seattle Collective Garden recieved a terroristic style letter from the DEA strong-arming us to close our garden.

As many of you know this past year has been very challenging for Ben, with losing his brother and multiple trips out of state to tend to Mom, the burglaries, thefts, extreme competition, and now this.

It’s a lot for one person, and there are no resources or energy left to fight.

Effective immediately SCG is closed.

One federal agency controls all the marijuana research done in the United States. And that agency has admitted that it won’t fund research into the benefits of marijuana — only the supposed “negative consequences.”

A spokesperson for the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) told the New York Times in 2010 that the agency “does not fund research focused on the potential medical benefits of marijuana.”

“As the National Institute on Drug Abuse, our focus is primarily on the negative consequences of marijuana use,” NIDA spokeswoman Shirley Simson told the Times. Read Full Article →

The thing that irritates me most about some people against the medical marijuana movement is that they know for a fact that their chemical, pharmaceutical pain and psychiatric meds are very dangerous — and regularly fatal — yet accept them and take them regularly without reading one word of research about them.

People trust ethically-compromised docs who literally get paid to promote drugs that are known to harm people.

However, when MMJ folk beg for their neighbors to please listen to what has been said anecdotally or submitted as valid research documentation by doctors all over the world, people against the movement say: “It’s dangerous. There aren’t enough studies, and they could be harmful” … in other words, the EXACT things they NEVER say about Oxycontin, Adderall, Prozac, or Abilify.

Musical artist Chief Greenbud has gotten some favorable attention for his marijuana-themed songs, and his latest song and video on YouTube are going to please his old fans, and likely gain him some new ones.

“Marijuana Mellows You Out” is the name of the tune, and it adheres to the Chief’s thoroughly stoned, happy-go-lucky musical and lyrical style.

Full Senate Will Consider Measure

Lawmakers approve bill that would allow people with debilitating medical conditions to use marijuana if their doctors recommend it

Following a Wednesdsay hearing, the Illinois Senate Executive Committee voted 10-5 to approve a bill that would allow Illinois residents with serious illnesses to use medical marijuana if their physicians recommend it. The full 59-member Senate will now consider the measure, which received approval from the full House of Representatives on April 17.

“We applaud the committee members for supporting safe access to medical marijuana for patients suffering from debilitating conditions,” said Dan Riffle, deputy director of government relations for the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP). “We hope their colleagues will agree that seriously ill people who benefit from medical marijuana should not have to risk being arrested and prosecuted.”

Anonymous Team Vendetta has taken down the website of hypocritical New York Assemblyman Steve Katz, who last year voted against medical marijuana for sick people who need it, but in March got busted for smoking weed after he got pulled over for speeding.

Members of the hacktivist collective temporarily took down Katz’s site, katz4ny.com, on Wednesday morning. The site was still down as of 1:42 p.m. Pacific.

Katz was hit with a pot possession charge when an officer smelled weed after stopping him for going 80 miles an hour in a 65 mph zone on the New York State Thruway.

That was the 59-year-old Putnam County lawmaker’s first known pot bust, but oddly, he was arrested two times for allegedly mishandling dogs when he worked as a veterinarian. Both of those cases were dismissed. Read Full Article →
