State Rep. Edith Ajello (D-Providence), chair of the Rhode Island House Committee on Judiciary, will introduce a bill on Wednesday, February 6 to legalize possession of limited amounts of marijuana for adults 21 and older and establish a system in which marijuana is regulated and taxed similarly to alcohol. State Sen. Donna Nesselbush (D-Pawtucket) will sponsor the bill in the Senate.

Rep. Ajello and Sen. Nesselbush will discuss the details of the Marijuana Regulation, Control and Taxation Act at a news conference hosted by the Coalition for Marijuana Regulation on Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST in the House Judiciary Room (State House Room 205).

The introduction of the bill will come just one day after members of Congress introduced historic bills to regulate and tax marijuana like alcohol at the federal level. Sponsors of the proposals held a press teleconference on Tuesday to announce the details of their proposals.
