Two retired agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will hit Arizona State University on Wednesday — the first day of early voting — to encourage students to vote “Yes” on Prop. 205, the initiative to regulate marijuana like alcohol in Arizona.

As students begin heading to an early voting location on the ASU campus, former special agents Michael Capasso and Finn Selander will speak to them about why they support repealing the marijuana prohibition laws that they spent many years enforcing.

Capasso retired in 2015 following more than three and half years as chief of the DEA Financial Crimes Unit. During his tenure at the agency, Capasso spearheaded a task force comprised of Phoenix-area police officers targeting Mexican cartels trafficking drugs into the U.S. He also directed operations in Sierra Vista, one of the DEA’s front-line posts along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Selander served six years as marijuana coordinator for the DEA, working out of its offices in New Mexico and Florida, followed by seven years as a demand reduction coordinator. Prior to joining the DEA, he served as a police officer in Pensacola, Florida.

Capasso is featured in a new digital ad that will be launched this week, which is viewable below or at https://youtu.be/s3xsMJrVUqg.

“I’m supporting Prop. 205 because it will make our community safer,” Capasso says in the ad. “Law enforcement has more important things to do than arrest adults for simple marijuana possession. It’s time to end marijuana prohibition and regulate marijuana like alcohol.”
