The Idaho Senate’s State Affairs Committee on Friday voted — unanimously! — to introduce an idiotic resolution, RS 21862, “opposing marijuana use in any form.”
The measure was written and introduced by state Senator Chuck Winder, a notorious crypto-conservative Republican who, until now, was most well known for boorish and insensitive comments he made last year suggesting that women are using rape as an “excuse” to seek abortions.
“I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, the physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marraige or was it truly cause by a rape,” he said, reports Eric Fink at KIVI-TV.Now, Senator Winder’s latest bad idea means, according to Idaho activist Theresa Knox, a permanent ban of marijuana in Idaho, regardless of its application — recreational, spiritual, or medical.
“Chuck Winder has no business attempting to ban marijuana in Idaho, since a 2010 Clear Research Poll showed 74 percent of Idahoans polled to be supportive of medical marijuana legalization, and there is a healthy percentage who would like to see it legalized entirely,” Knox told Toke Signals.
But these geniuses, rather than actually, you know, listening to their constituents when it comes to cannabis — including a lot of very sick people who need the herb medicinally — they’d just make sure you knew they’d already decided for you.
Not content to merely oppose marijuana within the state’s borders, these traitorous thugs actually invited the Feds in to take care of the supposed marijuana menace that is threatening Idaho’s virtuous citizenry. The resolution urges President Barack Obama and the Department of Justice to enforce existing federal marijuana laws, as if they needed any encouragement.
Senator Winder said his moronic measure is a “response” to the “growing acceptance of marijuana use” in neighboring states. We don’t cotton to that there merry-jew-wanna in Idaho, no sirree!
Winder claimed that cops along Idaho’s western border are “dealing with an influx of drug trafficking” after Washington voters legalized pot, and the medical legalization passed by voters a few years ago in Oregon and Montana.
The clueless state senator urged the federal government to “take steps” to oppose the law Washington voters approved which legalizes marijuana in that state, and called on the Feds to help states battle illegal trafficking of pot.
“Our neighbors in Washington have spoken up and made responsible marijuana possession legal, as did Colorado,” Knox said. “Many cities across the nation have decriminalized marijuana possession and use, or made it ‘lowest priority’ — Hailey, Idaho being one of them.
“With 18 states allowing medical marijuana, and multiple states preparing to introduce legislation to legalize it in the coming year, it is absolutely a step backward for Mr. Winder to introduce this bill,” Knox said.
