Dr. Jahan Marcu,
Patient Focused Certification:

“Medical cannabis is a safe and effective medicine, but the industry needs clear standards to become transparent, safe and reliable, just as other industries have done”

The training will be held on-site at the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation in Frederick, Maryland, and for the first time, include remote training options for those who want to take the training but can not travel to Frederick.

“Medical cannabis is a safe and effective medicine, but the industry needs clear standards to become transparent, safe and reliable, just as other industries have done,” explained Dr. Jahan Marcu, chief auditor for PFC. “Americans for Safe Access created the Patient Focused Certification (PFC) program to bring modern and science-based standards to each sector of the industry–retailers, growers, manufacturers and testing labs. Product safety protocols are a part of every legitimate industry.”

The four-day training in Frederick will use a combination of lecture and hands on exercises to provide a professional credential for professionals working in the cannabis industry. During this training, participants will receive a detailed overview of cannabis as medicine, the history of cannabis laws in the U.S., best security practices for cannabis businesses, and the human body’s endocannabinoid system.

The course will cover PFC’s National Cannabis Standards in the areas of Cultivation and Processing; Manufacturing, Packaging, Labeling and Holding; Distribution (Dispensing); and Laboratory Operations as well as pesticide use guidance, sustainability considerations, preparation for internal and external audits and more.

PFC programs are recognized by governments, healthcare professionals and cannabis industry professionals from around the country and internationally. PFC is the nation’s only certification program based on quality standards issued by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). As a leader in medical cannabis education since 2002, PFC staff have trained thousands of medical cannabis providers, patients, caregivers and practitioners.

PFC has been awarded a contract with the State of Maryland to train all compliance inspectors for the State’s medical cannabis program. Additionally, PFC currently holds the first government-issued educational permit from the District of Columbia to provide the required staff trainings for the District’s legal medical cannabis providers.
