The water level of Lake Mead, America’s largest reservoir located just 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, hit a historic low in June, signaling unique challenges for Nevada in terms of water usage. Urban-gro’s team of Cultivation Technologists helps design water and wastewater treatment systems by analyzing many aspects of source water to develop cost-effective treatment solutions. Urban-gro also designs custom biological wastewater treatment systems to reduce the levels of salts and BODs before emission to the sewer.
“Because Nevada has some of the biggest challenges in terms of water resources and environmental regulations, if adult use is legalized, it will be more important than ever that every serious cultivator look at efficiencies of operation in fertigation, integrated pest management, lighting and building controls,” Chandler said. Urban-gro’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) helps growers achieve healthy, pest-free crops through the use of biological controls, cultural management, chemical control and exclusion. Chandler is the cannabis industry’s only Certified Crop Advisor.
Whether Nevada cultivators are growing indoors or utilizing a greenhouse, it is critical to provide the optimal light levels for each flower stage. This may mean utilizing a mix of HPS and LED horticulture fixtures. Earlier this year, urban-gro announced the availability of HortiLED, a new line of LED lighting for the cannabis market custom engineered to deliver optimum lighting performance for specific indoor and greenhouse cannabis cultivations.
“With a ballooning patient base and the ability for out-of-state patients to purchase medical marijuana from dispensaries, if the Nevada Marijuana Legalization Initiative is passed on November 8, the possibilities are endless in terms of new business opportunities for the state,” Chandler said. “Now it’s up to cultivators to make sure they are prepared by using the best agricultural practices to ensure their products are high quality, safe and affordable.”
Serving as the vice president of Cultivation Technologies, Chandler has a passion for assisting growers in efficiently producing high-quality horticultural crops. He has been managing and consulting for large-scale organic vegetable farms and greenhouses, as well as cannabis production facilities since his graduation from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Production Horticulture in 2003.Chandler has a wide breadth of knowledge of integrated pest management, fertility and automation in large-scale operations. After three years as Director of Cultivation for a highly awarded Denver dispensary, he successfully launched Cannabis IPM Solutions in 2014. In 2015, urban-gro brought him on board to do the same for their customers.
Chandler is a Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) by the California CCA Board. The CCA certification program was established in 1992 by the American Society of Agronomy to provide a benchmark for practicing agronomy professionals in the United States and Canada. In addition to Chandler’s expertise, cultivators in the Southwest can also see urban-gro’s commitment to the region with the recent hire of Michael McGrew as regional sales manager for Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.
If the Nevada Marijuana Legalization Initiative is passed, Nevada Revised Statutes will be amended to allow a person, 21 years old or older, to purchase, cultivate, possess, or consume a certain amount of marijuana or concentrated marijuana, as well as manufacture, possess, use, transport, purchase, distribute, or sell marijuana paraphernalia; impose a 15 percent excise tax on wholesale sales of marijuana; require the regulation and licensing of marijuana cultivators, testing facilities, distributors, suppliers, and retailers; and provide for certain criminal penalties.
