Columbia University Students for Sensible Drug Policy and the Drug Policy Alliance are organizing a one-of-a-kind panel discussion this Wednesday that will examine the scientific, cultural and public health implications of MDMA (“Molly”) and its imprints on hip-hop music and culture.

When: Wednesday, March 27th Doors open at 7p. Program starts at 7:30 – 9 pm
Where: Columbia University, Alfred Lerner Hall, Roone Arledge Cinema Auditorium on 114th and Broadway entrance

The event is free, but people who wish to attend MUST register online beforehand. Register here:

• What does the research show about the health effects of MDMA?
• What’s the story behind MDMA’s recent proliferation in the hip-hop community?
• How does the War On Drugs shape our understanding of and response to molly in our communities?

Over the last few years, the hip hop community has discovered MDMA, more commonly known as “molly”, which has spurred provocative discussions about drugs, music, communities and the effects of criminalization on the public’s health.

However, many myths about the drug persist and much of its history remains untold.

This event will encourage students and the public to engage in honest and open dialogue about MDMA and to promote science-based drug education. The event will feature several music videos and news coverage illustrating MDMA’s resurgence in popular culture.

Panelists include:

Allison Turza Bajger, doctoral candidate, Columbia University
Dr. Lewis-McCoy, The City College of the City University of New York
Brittany Lewis, Global Grind
Stefanie Jones, Drug Policy Alliance
Ingmar Gorman, doctoral candidate, New School for Social Research

The event is co-sponsored by NYU Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Columbia University NAACP, the Columbia University College Democrats.
