A medical marijuana primer based on a disease prevention model for longevity which incorporates frequent use of medicinal plant-based cannabinoids for wellness.
Joy is the fuel humans run on… joy maintains the homeostatic immune balance within your brain and body. Joy is the outward expression of wellness.
It would be great if we humans came with a user manual at birth with full instructions for self care, optimal performance and life mileage, and, as a bonus, how to experience maximum joy while taking this ride. Maintaining a human body and mind is a high maintenance task which only increases with age.
From a positive psychology perspective, Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development can give you a holistic life overview to start writing your plan.
Lacking this paperwork, the next best thing you can do is to write up your own custom-designed user’s manual that would consist of your own basic personalized plans for maintaining a strong body and sharp mind as you age.
Your manual should include a chapter on cannabinoids and you, because plant cannabinoids, or phytocannabinoids, are now in the vanguard of the future for preventive health, rehabilitation and geriatric medicine.
The main benefit of a phytocannabinoids that no other pharmaceutical drug can make is they are 100 percent safe: no toxic side effects, no overdoses, no deaths.
As a professional health educator who taught health and disease prevention with a strong emphasis on wellness and positive psychology, I am always on the lookout for new medical research discoveries regarding simple healthy lifestyle habits that anecdotally or statistically are reported to improve the probability of you reaching 100 years old and still physically kicking some major ass like this guy!
Many in medical research are of the opinion that scientific evidence has now reached a critical mass regarding a new medical paradigm, namely… an as needed prescription medical marijuana preventative treatment plan that will empirically show an increase in longevity in time.
Presently, the combined male-female life expectancy in US is 78.7 years.
I am of the opinion that a medical marijuana preventative treatment plan can statistically increase longevity and help to get many of us to the goal of living to 100 years old.
The endgame of this plan is to break the curve, with years added to your life and a higher degree of functioning, with the addition of disease-preventing cannabinoids into your lifestyle.
Hard scientific evidence over the last 20 years overwhelmingly shows that this plant-based medicine is the one go-to broad spectrum medicine to treat all the discomforts that typically go along with aging, such as chronic pain, body discomfort, poor sleep, poor appetite, disability and sadness.
We all know that diet, exercise, stress management, and having good friends and family are vital for maintaining a sound body and mind as we age. The new update to our successful aging game plan should include frequent use of plant-based cannabinoids, the rationale being cannabinoids have the effect of staving off all types of cancers, reducing vascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke, and preventing dementia/Alzheimer’s and other related neurological diseases.
Presently in the U.S., with quasi legalization of medical marijuana, we are conducting this real-world longitudinal experiment on ourselves. My money is on the group that uses zero tobacco products and only small amounts of alcohol and adheres to the following:
The main lifestyle variables for successful aging that are in your control are Mediterranean diet + high intensity cardio/strength training + a cannabis-based spiritual practice that includes daily mediation + loving and being loved by another human = joy.
Marijuana prohibition has criminalized this preventative medicine regime from reaching parents and grandparents as they age; this has led to their earlier deaths. Imagine that–prohibition is indirectly killing off loved ones in all of our families. Under the Patient Bill of Rights you have a right to choose what medicines you will take to treat any health condition. Marijuana prohibition causes earlier death in the elderly.
Eventually you (and all children) become your parents’ and grandparents’ caregivers. Having your parents and grandparents consume daily cannabinoids may delay or even prevent the day you have to sign them into a nursing home for long-term care in the future.
“Emerging role of the cannabinoid receptor CB2 in immune regulation: therapeutic prospects for neuroinflammation” –Expert Rev Mol Med. / Jan. 2009
“There is now a large body of data indicating that the cannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2) is linked to a variety of immune events. This functional relevance appears to be most important in the course of inflammation, a process during which there is an increased number of receptors that are available for activation.
“Studies aimed at knowing how signal transduction events resulting from CB2 interaction with its native endogenous cannabinoids, and of the role of exogenous cannabinoids in modulating this process, are providing novel insights into the role of CB2 in maintaining a homeostatic immune balance within the host.
“Furthermore, these studies suggest that the CB2 may serve as a selective molecular target for therapeutic manipulation of untoward immune responses, including those associated with a variety of neuropathies that exhibit a hyper inflammatory component.”
From a positive psychology perspective, medical marijuana produces joy, and joy is the fuel humans run on. It is this inner experience that halts the downward progression of a depressive state so common in the aged. In addition, frequent peaks of joy in turn are a huge boost to the immune system.
Medical marijuana will become a miracle drug to the field of geriatrists in the near future. And if you have ever spent any time working in a nursing home giving direct care, you will know what I mean.
Can the benefits of cannabinoid receptor stimulation on neuroinflammation, neurogenesis and memory during normal aging be useful in Alzheimer’s prevention? – J Neuroinflammation / Jan 2012
“The growing number of medical benefits of cannabinoids, such as their ability to regulate age-related processes like neuroinflammation, neurogenesis and memory, raise the question of their potential role as a preventive treatment of Alzheimer’s.”
Think of this plant-based medicine as an antioxidant/anti-cancer, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, antidepressant/anxiety /PTSD agent, all rolled together into one, and the smile on your face shows it’s working.
I find it difficult to understand how any prohibitionist who has witnessed suffering, disability, sickness and death in their own inner circle of family and friends can not be moved by compassion to support complete legalization of this gentle, safe plant.
If you are living close to the bone and don’t have health insurance with prescription coverage, medical marijuana makes even more economic sense. And conversely ,if seniors were given an option of an alternative medical treatment plan including medical marijuana and giving up several prescriptions in its place, the savings in prescription costs could save the government billions of dollars in Medicaid costs.
If you look age-specific illnesses of the elderly, this one plant-based medicine syncs up and eliminates a multitude of common prescription drugs, so why take five drugs when you can take just one? Again, medical marijuana is a superior type of supplement due to its 100% safety record with no harmful side effects.
As a voting bloc, these aging baby boomers’ demographic and their physicians’ support are key to passing country-wide legalization. Florida, I’m looking at you.
And another thing: allowing older people to grow their own cannabis in their backyards is therapeutic in its own right. It gives them a job and purpose; doing hard work in backyard gardens allows them to transfer their wisdom and love into creating life, the manual labor gets them up and moving, growing their own medicine. Medical marijuana — it’s a win-win.
Is it time to update the hard drive between your ears and reinvent your view on optimal existence?
I strongly recommend that everybody start conducting their own private personal research on this matter. Do cannabinoids address your own personal medicinal issues? There is only one way to find out.
Hi! I’m marijuana. Your brain has receptors designed for my medicine. I am natural and non-fatal in any dose. I can be eaten, vaporized, or smoked. I can replace many expensive and dangerous pharmaceuticals. I ease and treat the symptoms of cancer, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s Alzheimer’s, Chrohn’s and AIDS.
The US government itself claims marijuana is good for your brain as an anti-inflammatory patented medicine. I represent millions of jobs and billions of dollars. I can be turned into food, gas, fabric, paper, and building materials… I can be regulated like alcohol and tobacco. I can be taxed by state and federal governments.
Because I don’t kill, I am the 100 percent safer alternative to these two poisons. I will not ruin your life, but a criminal record for marijuana will.
This election season, I’m asking for your help. Most politicians are scared of me because they think you’ll turn on them if they publicly support me. Tell them they’re wrong. Help me to help you. End cannabis prohibition!
Remember, it’s never too late to have a happy childhood!
Do you feel it?
